Our oval chainrings work because a rider does not produce power uniformly across a pedal stroke; They maximize the part of the swing where power is produced and minimize resistance where it is not. The oval rings make the turning cycle much smoother and are easier on the legs while climbing. Believe it (or not), but a round chainring does not transfer torque to your rear wheel as smoothly as an Oval. You will really feel that your swing is more 'round' with an Oval shape than with a round plate.
